A few days back there was a funny blog entry in Down with Tyranny asking this same question about Republicans and it was a hilarious exercise that spread around the blogs and helped everyone laugh at todays politics briefly before they started crying again.
I don't mean to draw equivalences here, I am firmly in the camp that says that the Republican corruptions and incompetencies are more overtly dangerous. I also believe, however, that the Democrats are failing in a very important way as well. Like an abused spouse, the Democrats, as a party, are not throwing the punches that hurt but they are enabling the abuse. They are in complete denial about their own role in it and they attack and marginalize those who try to sit them down and tell them that they have a problem.
With that little bit of depressing psychobabble out of the way, I think it's time to take another moment to laugh a little more about the absurdity of it all. So. . .
How many Democrats does it take to screw in a light bulb?
18
One to passionately say that there is a light bulb burned out.
One to issue a press release condemning the first Democrat for going too far in his comments about the light bulb..
One to go on Fox News and agree with the Republican pundit that the comments were "unfortunate" because Democrats have control of congress and they need to demonstrate leadership rather than partisan bickering.
One to complain that the Republicans are now making too big an issue of the above comments and that it is distracting us all from noticing that we are standing in darkness.
One to write a strongly worded letter to the President asking why he wants us to remain in darkness.
One to chair the committee that investigates the light bulb problem endlessly.
One to agree with Republicans that there is no problem with the light bulb and this is just political theater.
One to say that screwing in light bulbs "is off the table"
One to make a motion that we just give the President the darkness he wants for 6 months because there is not enough time to get it resolved before congress goes on recess.
One to hash out a bipartisan agreement with the President that will only screw the light bulb half way in.
One to go on Fox news calling the above agreement a great bipartisan victory.
One to state that this is the only way we can get this bill through.
One to state that we just don't have the votes to get the light bulb screwed all the way in.
One to vote against the bipartisan compromise when they know it won't make a difference.
One to vote for the bipartisan compromise because "we need to be seen as getting things done."
One to passionately point out that Americans are all sill in darkness.
One to help marginalize that person.
One to write a blog in the Huffington post cheering the passage of the bipartisan "Patriots who love darkness because they are real Americans" bill as a great victory for the Democrats.
Rinse and repeat.
Are there any others that I missed?
